3 Reasons Why Sprout Social's "Always-up-to-date social media image guide" is the best social media resource on the internet

If you follow us on any of our social media channels, chances are you've heard us talking about our favourite social media resource, the Sprout Social Always Up-To-Date Social Media Image Sizes guide. Now, you're probably thinking, "Why the heck are you so into this resource? What makes it so wonderful?"

Well, here's our response to you:

  1. It has all the nitty gritty details. It's no secret that social media platforms like to keep you on our toes. Whether it's changing algorithms, evolving platform interfaces, or modifications to their images sizes, each platform has their own way of doing things. I mean, 828px x 315px for a Facebook cover photo... is that even a real size?

This resource breaks down all of the visual elements for each major social media platform. It provides you with the maximum and minimum image size, the image aspect ratios, and what type of image file will work with the platform.

  2. Everything is in one place. Before this resource existed, you would have to visit 15 different links in Google (sometimes even looking for your answers on Page 2... *gasp!*) before you'd find an article that contained even some of the information you were looking for. Now, we can confidently say that we're going to one place to find all the information we need. Need to know the dimensions for your Instagram profile pic? Boom. How about the YouTube Channel Art for TV display? Double Boom. It's all right there.

  3. The resource is always up to date. Yes, it’s true. Somehow, the magical humans at Sprout Social just know when there are dimension updates and they make sure this trusty tool reflects those updates.

In a world where there is SO MUCH information available to us, it’s great to know there’s a resource we can count on to always have the up-to-date information we are looking for. As social media marketers, sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference in our work flow, and this is definitely one of those tools that makes our jobs easier.

If you're looking for even more incredible social media tools to help make your life just a *little bit* easier, our #iMEDIA17 Speakers are ready to show you the way. Join them on March 10 & 11 at the iMEDIA Social Media Conference.

No fluff. No BS. Just Adam Rozenhart.

If you live in Edmonton and you think “digital”, chances are the following things comes to mind:

  • #yeg
  • *Instagram photos of food*
  • @bingofuel

Yep, thee @bingofuel, Adam Rozenhart, will be joining us as your iMEDIA 2017 Friday Keynote, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to our line-up.

Those of you who are already engaged in the social media scene have probably met Adam at one point or another. Those of you who haven’t met him… you are in for something special. Adam’s energy and passion towards the digital industry is something you don’t see every day—this guy truly eats, sleeps and breathes digital, and he has more than proved himself in the digital space.

Adam is a 10-year veteran in digital and social media marketing. Right now, he hangs his hat at DDB Canada, working with an incredible team of creative professionals, as a Senior Digital Strategist.

With a BA in Psychology, English and a background in communications writing, Adam was drawn early in his career to the growing phenomenon of social media. One of his earliest projects was as founder and editor-in-chief of OilersNation.com, the popular independent Oilers news website written for fans of the team, by fans of the team.

He eventually moved on to take the leading digital role at Calder Bateman Communications, where he led numerous innovative campaigns, including NoHomophobes, which garnered extensive industry recognition and international media attention and has been shared by over 150k users. He also led the digital portion for projects such as Plenty of Syph and Sexgerms with Alberta Health Services; and the recent Pride Tape Crowdfunding Campaign with the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services at the University of Alberta.

Other significant projects include volunteering as Director of Digital Communications for the successful 2013 Don Iveson for Mayor campaign, as well as hosting and producing a travel podcast (the Expats), hosting his own YouTube video channel (Just Adam Minute), and co-founding Nerd Nite Edmonton.

Adam was named one of Alberta Venture’s Next 10 in 2011, made Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2013, and received the University of Alberta Alumni Horizon Award in 2014.

Adam’s Keynote will look at the rise of social media through his personal and client experiences, how brands and organizations should be approaching social today, and where he sees things moving in the future. He’s been through it all, and trust us when we say this guy is the epitome of the “no BS” iMEDIA promise.

This will be the first-ever iMedia Keynote dedicated to the state of the industry, which makes sense when you consider this man got into social media in 2007. HE’S A PIONEER, PEOPLE!

Now please go and give Adam all of the digital high-fives because, well, high fives are fun AND it’ll be fun to make his phone dance around his desk while he’s trying to get some work done today.

A letter for managers who just don’t get it… yet

There are two kinds of managers: those that immediately understand the value of social media (*cough* and the iMEDIA Social Media Conference) and those that just need a little extra convincing.

If your manager falls in the latter category, we’ve got you covered. The iMEDIA Manager Letter breaks down all of the key conference highlights to help you get the approval you need, including:

  • The quality of speakers and the value of their real-world experience
  • The fact that you can choose Breakout Sessions that are specific to your level of understanding
  • Previous conference attendees’ recommendation and our personal favourite, return percentages (aka, the people that keep on coming back to iMEDIA year after year after year!)

But you know your boss best, so amend the letter as you like to help make your case. After all, we know you *really* want to join us at iMEDIA and quite frankly, we'd *really* like to see you there! 🤓

If you know the Breakout Sessions you plan to attend, include the details. Or mention the actual strategies within your organization that your learnings from iMEDIA will impact. Or heck, just pepper it with buzzwords. That always guarantees some attention. ROI… Earned media… Customer loyalty… Brand equity... Oh. And don't forget millennial. 😉

Good luck, and we wish you look on your future endeavours (aka, we'll see you in March!)

iMedia Keynote Speaker announcement: Jennifer Hollett joins the lineup

We have a confession to make: every year, as the conference wraps and everyone starts trickling out of the iMEDIA venue, we’re already planning next year's conference.

This is a good thing, an exciting thing.

But when the time comes to start thinking about your next iMEDIA Keynote Speakers, we get the night sweats.

Our main goal is always to invite people who will push you to think about the digital landscape in new and valuable ways. But we also want to bring in someone who will set the stage for the amazing weekend you're about to experience. We want them to inspire you and put that umph in your step.

Well, night sweats no more because we *know* this year's Keynote Speakers are going to do exactly that.

So without further adieu, we’re excited to announce our first iMEDIA Keynote.

Joining us from Twitter Canada (we said it... Twitter!): Jennifer Hollett.

Jennifer Hollett keynote.jpg

Jennifer Hollett is a smash-up of digital, journalism and politics. She is the head of news and government for Twitter Canada.

Jennifer has worked in digital since the late ’90s, when she became the youngest manager ever at Sony Music Canada, developing new media strategies for the label’s top artists. She co-founded a start-up and developed Super PAC App, which debuted number one in its category in the App Store, helping make political TV ads more transparent.

An award-winning TV reporter and producer, Jennifer has over a decade of experience at CBC, CTV and MuchMusic. She won a Canadian Online Publishing Award for her work hosting CBC’s G20 Street Level blog during the 2010 G20 Summit in Toronto, and she was recognized by Amnesty International Canada with a Media Award for her CBC radio reporting from Israel and Palestine.

Jennifer studied public policy at Harvard University, obtaining her MPA, and she was the digital director on Olivia Chow's 2014 Toronto mayoral campaign. She starts and ends her day by checking Twitter, something she did even before she started working for the company.

Jennifer’s Keynote will be unlike anything we’ve had at previous iMEDIA Conferences.

Consider this: Twitter's top hashtag in Canada for 2016 was #BellLetsTalk, beating out U.S. #ElectionNight and #Rio2016.

Jennifer’s Keynote will focus on building movements like #BellLetsTalk, breaking down how hashtag-driven social media engagement campaigns can spark social change, reframe issues, introduce new narratives and build brands. And of course, the session wouldn’t be complete without a live Twitter Q&A. It is a Keynote from Twitter, after all.

So, there you have it, your first iMEDIA Keynote announcement and we must say, we are incredibly thankful to CPRS Edmonton for joining us at this year's iMEDIA as our Keynote Sponsor. Stay tuned for more news later this week about our iMEDIA Master Series classes, and we’ve got one more Keynote announcement up our sleeves.

A December Prize Package From... Santa?! 🎅🏼❄️☃️

November has officially come and gone and considering it has finally snowed, I think it's safe to say, the holidays are right around the corner. Well, I guess they were coming with or without the snow, but now it feels more festive, doesn't it?! ❄️☃️🌲

For the last couple weeks of November, we offered a mega iMEDIA Prize Package and survey says: you people loved it but we couldn't let our December Early Adopters be left out in the cold (see what we did there?! 😉)

In the spirit of the holidays, we thought it was only appropriate to bring Santa into the mix. Starting today, when you grab your iMEDIA Conference Pass or iMEDIA All Access Pass, there will be an extra field on your registration form:

This year, I wish Santa would bring me...

There are only a few restrictions to what you can put on your list to Santa:

  1. The value of your item(s) must be valued at less than $350 CAD
  2. The item(s) must be a bad @$$ tech or business item
  3. The item(s) must be available for shipping in Canada
  4. The item(s) must be available (aka, please don't ask for a Nintendo Classic NES because we can't get our hands on one either! 😭😭😭)

So, if you've wanted a new set of computer monitors for your desktop set-up, a gift card to put towards your new laptop purchase, the newest smart watch on the market or maybe even micro drone to try out in the new year, put it on your list! We're all about cool tech and can't wait to see what items you are dreaming up this holiday season!

Any iMEDIA Early Adopter who purchases an iMEDIA Saturday Conference Pass OR an iMEDIA All-Access Pass before December 31st at 11:59PM will be entered to win the iMEDIA Early Adopter December Prize Package.

To everyone who has already purchased an iMEDIA Early Adopter ticket in the month of December, you'll be entered to win this prize package as well! If your name is drawn, we'll be in touch with you so that you can select your prize(s)!

3 ways to stay up to date in the ever changing world of social media

The social media landscape changes on the daily. Whether it’s algorithm tweaks, notable viral trends, or yet another new platform being introduced, we, as social media marketers, have to stay on our toes. But in a world of information overload, it can be difficult to know where to start, so we thought we’d help you with that.

Here are three tips to staying up to date in the world of social media:

1. Curate a list of go-to resources (and check them every day!)

We have some favourite sites we check every single morning with our morning cup of coffee to see what’s gone on in the world of social over the last few hours.

These sites cover everything from business to watercooler conversation starters and, of course, what’s going on in social media and tech. Not only does this help us understand what the landscape is looking like that day, but it actually helps us curate content for our own social channels. It also helps us understand what is going to be relevant to our iMEDIA attendees. Here are some of our favourites:

2. Create a Twitter List with some of your favourite social media professionals and influencers.

Creating a Twitter List will help you block out the noise and see only what is important to you and your business. You might want to follow a speaker that you learned from in a webinar or a social media heavy hitter like Gary Vaynerchuk. Don't know how to create a Twitter List? Let Twitter show you the ropes!

Pro tip: Find someone you trust and respect in the industry and take a peek at who they follow. This will speed up your own list-making time, and we guarantee you’ll learn about some awesome social media pros you didn’t know about before.

3. Treat yo’ self!

Book yourself in for an annual learning opportunity and learn from the pros--but be sure to do your research before choosing your PD.

Look for conferences and events that focus on tactical, real world applicables, not the fluffy BS. Not only will the learning opportunities from the speakers advance your digital strategy, but we can PROMISE you that the connections you make with other attendees at those events will push you to become even better at your craft. Luckily for you, we know an event that checks off all of those boxes! 😊🤓😆

Today's the day...

Oh! We are so darn excited to be writing this post to your today because guess what!?!

Your iMEDIA Early Adopter tickets are officially here!

That's right, friends, starting today, you can officially get your iMEDIA 2017 conference passes. Coming in on the heels of last year's sold out conference, we can't stress enough how important it will be to get your hands on the Early Adopter tickets. After all, you wouldn't want to miss out on all the trick we have up our sleeves now, would you?! PLUS if you grab an iMEDIA Early Adopter pass, you will be entered to win some seriously awesome prizes. Really, it doesn't get much better than that!

But before we get into the fun stuff (aka the prizes!) we have a few details to share with you about your iMEDIA 2017 conference passes.

  1. There are 3 types of iMEDIA conference passes: the iMEDIA Friday Night Keynote & Networking Pass; the iMEDIA Saturday Conference Pass; and the iMEDIA All-Access Pass. This is the same format that we released tickets to last year's conference and it seems to have really worked for you lovely people.
  2. We will be releasing the iMEDIA Master Series class passes in early January. These will be available a-la-carte to your iMEDIA Saturday Conference Pass and/or your iMEDIA All-Access Pass. Wondering what an iMEDIA Master Series class is? Check out our FAQ page to learn more.
  3. After last year's conference, we had feedback that is was a little tricky to get out of the MacEwan University parkades with everyone leaving the venue at once so you can now add your iMEDIA Parking Passes to your iMEDIA conference passes. This means you won't have to wait in line for the payment machine post-iMEDIA which should speed things up for everyone! Please note that the evening rates are the same as the all-day rates at MacEwan University. If you are attending iMEDIA on Friday & Saturday, you will require two parking passes.

Okay, that's all the housekeeping we have now let's get to the fun stuff aka the PRIZES!

There is nothing worse than getting a prize that a.) you can't use or b.) you don't need so we've come up with something a little different for this year's iMEDIA Early Adopter November Prize Giveaway - we're letting you choose your own adventure, erm, prize package if you are the lucky winner! So let's see those damn prizes already, shall we!?

Any iMEDIA Early Adopter who purchases an iMEDIA Saturday Conference Pass OR an iMEDIA All-Access Pass before November 30th at 11:59PM will be entered to win the iMEDIA Early Adopter November Prize Package. They will be able to choose 3 items from the following options.

  • Apple Watch Sport - Series 1 38mm (choose your Watch face & sport band) OR Bose QuietComfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones... AND

So, what are you waiting for?!
